Family members cutoff
The concept of emotional cutoff describes how people manage their unresolved emotional issues with parents, siblings, and other family members by reducing or totally cutting off emotional contact with them. Emotional contact can be reduced by moving away from family and rarely going home, or it can be reduced by staying in physical contact with family but avoiding sensitive issues.
Relationship mediation can help to bring family members together – perhaps for the first time in many years – with the intention of healing the past. For example, It is not uncommon for children and adult children to become alienated from one parent as a result of divorce. Integrating a new partner into relationships with children can be complicated and requires planning, patience, resilience, time, love and humility.
This form of therapy can also support couples who are navigating a second marriage and learning to create a blended family.
Friendship breakdowns
When we think about breakups, we often picture the end of romantic relationships. But friend breakups and disconnects can be just as painful. If you and your friend have reached a stuck point – where disconnect has set in and it feels too difficult to speak about what has caused the rift – relationship mediation can help you to sit down and talk.
