Neurotherapy
Neurotherapy is a ground-breaking technique that teaches the brain to function better. It is a painless, non-invasive method which helps people to modify their brainwave activity to improve attention, concentration, reduce impulsivity, and to control hyperactive behaviours.
Neurofeedback, also known as EEG biofeedback, is based on five decades of research and uses state of the art computers to capture and analyze brainwave activity and then turn it into useful information to feedback to your brain about its own functioning. Using non-invasive EEG techniques to measure brain waves, the brain is able essentially to "look in a mirror" and notice what is not in balance. With this information, it can re-regulate and improve its functioning.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TRAINING?
During training several electrodes are placed on the scalp and one or two are usually put on the ear lobe. Then, high-tech electronic equipment provides you with real-time, instantaneous audio and visual feedback about your brainwave activity. The electrodes measure the electrical patterns coming from the brain- it is completely non-invasive - no electrical current is put into your brain. Your brainwave patterns are relayed to the computer and recorded.
Training sessions are designed to teach clients to slowly change and retrain their brainwave pattern. With continuing feedback, coaching, and practice, the healthier brainwave patterns are maintained. In a sense, it is like exercising or doing physical therapy with the brain, enhancing cognitive flexibility and control.
Psychotherapy and Neurotherapy
If life’s difficulties and traumas are not proccessed or worked through they can exert a continuing negative influence on the way we perceive and react to the world. This means that we can get locked into unhealthy ways of thinking and behaving. Neurotherapy is designed to interrupt the habitual unconscious responses that keep us tied to the past, leading the brain to assess the current circumstances instead of carrying on with outdated responses and anxieties based on past experiences. Neurotherapy helps us acheive a mental state that is balanced and which allows us to chose reactions rather than getting stuck in conditioned behaviours.
Whilst psychotherapy provides the opportunity to learn more about oneself, or to develop new/stronger social and interpersonal skills, neurofeedback prepares the brain to be able to learn and gain benefits from therapy. As the brain stabilizes and develops increased flexibility, the potential for personal growth is greatly expanded.
