About counselling

My approach is best described as ‘integrative’ meaning that I have trained in several theoretical modalities including humanistic psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy and positive psychology.

I work with you to identify negative beliefs and thoughts that interfere with stable levels of well- being and happiness. A deepening understanding of yourself facilitates a more conscious and intentional approach to life and the challenges you are facing. As awareness increases you, will find that you are able to step away from rote and conditioned behaviour and instead - choose and experiment with healthy and more empowered ways of being.

For instance, if you feel stressed or anxious alot of the time, it's really helpful to understand what kinds of deeply held beliefs you have that are directing all of your actions and creating the emotional experience of stress and anxiety. I show you how to uncover the beliefs and patterns of behaviour that run your life and to challenge and change them. One of the best questions I know goes something like this: " If you have this belief about yourself (i.e. I'm not good enough, I don't fit in, nobody is interested in me) how does this affect your behaviour, your relationships and your peace of mind?" And to take this example a bit further, could we begin to question whether the experience of anxiety is a useful indicator of the necessity to develop greater levels of self confidence and self-efficacy?

I have been practicing as a counsellor for almost 15 years and have worked in agency settings, the NHS, addiction recovery programmes, child protection services and in private practice.
