How I work

My interest in self development, growth and healing began over 20 years ago when I hit my first early 'mid-life crisis'. I lacked purpose and meaning in my work in the world of advertising and design and I could not connect to a sense of who I really was. Eventually, through working with a great therapist I began to face my difficulties and really get to know myself in a profound way. This led to a career change and a long commitment to training as a therapist. Going into therapy can be hard work - sometimes painful and difficult, but also exhilerating and inspiring. It takes commitment to yourself, your process and your sessions.

I passionately believe in the power of therapy and have worked with hundreds of people over the past 15 years. There are many schools of therapy and many ways in which individual practitioners practice their art, but I would like to give you an idea of how I work with my clients. My style is dynamic and collaborative. This means that we form a team and we work together. This also means that I engage actively in the sessions, which can be challenging, stimulating, thought provoking and inspiring (as I have been told many times by clients). Sessions may also be difficult and require courage to face things that are holding you back. There may often be an educational element to our work together, for instance when working with difficult family dynamics or addictions - I may recommend reading material or assign homework which is designed to enrich and deepen your experience.

Make space for yourself in your life!

Sometimes clients tell me that the busyness of their lives prevents them from thinking deeply or connecting with themselves in any meaningful way throughout their week. If you want to get the most out of your therapy, please make space for yourself in your own life!! This may mean slowing down, doing less, coming home earlier - in order to connect to what you feel and who you are.

Working with your strengths

A key aspect of my work is that I place an equal focus on what is strong, healthy and successful in your life. By acknowledging, articulating and building on what is working well, clients are enabled and empowered, not only to solve problems and gain new perspectives, but also to achieve higher levels of hope, resilience and confidence.
